Safety Roadhouse, Iditarod Trail

The Safety Roadhouse is the last checkpoint on the Iditarod Sled Dog Trail before the finish in Nome. Back in the days when the dog team was the essential mode of transportation for supplies and people, roadhouses sprung up along trails about a one-day travel distance apart. The Safety Roadhouse is 22 miles (35 km) from Nome. There are many unique places on the Iditarod race trail and the Safety Roadhouse is like no other place on earth. It’s only open during the summer months and briefly in March for the running of the Iditarod. Read more here and here. Click here to download the CoastView app and explore Safety Sound.
