On March 6, 2017, the uninspected commercial fishing vessel St. Dominick grounded in Pumicestone Bay, on the southwest shore of Unalaska Island. The engine room flooded within 10–20 minutes of the grounding, and the four crewmembers abandoned the vessel a short time later. None of the crew were injured, and no pollution was reported. There are over 180 known wrecks and groundings on or adjacent to the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, but many more wrecks are not documented such as this stern section of a vessel on a reef also in Pumicestone Bay.
